Weston Hankins is a passionate believer in the power of the web for connecting people across the globe. He is a pioneer of online tools that encourage a real, face-to-face network of individuals sharing real-life experiences. Hankins became known with the success of CouchSurfing.org where he started as the 3rd employee and served as CTO for over 4 years helping turn it into the world’s largest travel community.
He then became the Chief Technical Officer at 9flats.com, an innovative online marketplace that connects people who want to rent out a spare room, flat or igloo with people who want to stay in more personal accommodation than a hotel when they travel.
He left 9flats recently to start Footstep Ventures, a new kind of city guide that can give users personalized recommendations on how to spend their day.
He previously worked at Microsoft in Redmond WA. Hankins also knows Germany very well. The native Mexican began his career in Germany, Daimler Chrysler. He is an industry expert and shares a passion for travel.
